As i was reading The Bible this morning, I came across this passage:
25 Do not lust in your heart after her beauty
or let her captivate you with her eyes,26 for the prostitute reduces you to a loaf of bread,
and the adulteress preys upon your very life.
I cannot help but laugh at how the author blatantly put into words the realities of life. And I was awed with wonder on how true the Saying is still today. Some women get involved not because of love, but for something that would increase their wealth or status in life. Thus, the men become their “bread and butter”. And for wives to be intimate with a man other than her husband creates havoc in the society. What if she gets pregnant? The child is considered as her husband’s considering that it was conceived (and probably delivered) during their marriage. I guess that’s the reason for such strictness in the Proverbs against adultery (and not concubinage).
